B Kids is on the move
Owners Jessica Breslin and Brittany Voxland take over the former location of Lisa McConnell Design Studio this month, as darkened storefronts along Fort Worth’s Camp Bowie Boulevard are filling up once again. B Kids is known for its wide selection of goods for infant to tween boys and girls. Breslin also owns Birdie, a women’s clothing and accessory boutique, located a little farther west on Camp Bowie. “Our new spot has ample parking and a few of the best local businesses as new neighbors,” Breslin says.

IN THE WORKS

Market by Macy’s
Construction continues at the new Market by Macy’s store in Fort Worth’s WestBend shopping center, although an opening date has not been announced. (Ads seeking employees for the Fort Worth location have been running for the past few months.) The project was revealed last February, as the concept opened in Southlake Town Square. The anchor spot of the mixed-use development has been unoccupied since Tom Thumb closed in 2017, and its size dwarfs the Southlake space. While Macy’s continues to deal with ongoing retail woes, it still believes in its small-store concept carrying less inventory in a more user-friendly environment. The store also features a dine-in cafe and coffee bar.

OBJECTS OF DESIRE

Byredo Gypsy Water body cream
Backstories don’t get much more romantic than that of Ben Gorham, founder of European luxury line Byredo. There’s a cinematic quality to the tale of the Swedish artist who abandoned painting for conjuring up fragrances after being swept away by the spicy aromatics of his mother’s hometown in India. But as much as we love that tale, we’re even more enamored of the emotive names Gorham assigns to his Byredo products. The mysterious cachet of Gypsy Water is amped up by its unisex appeal in all forms — perfume to body cream — but we’re most fond of it as a toteable tube ($43 for 1 ounce) of hand cream. Named in homage to the nomadic Romani culture, there’s a masculine appeal to Gypsy Water’s top notes of bergamot, juniper, lemon and pepper, and a fairytale wedding in the base notes of amber, sandalwood and vanilla. But the most transportive scent is the simple whiff of pine at the heart of the potion. A more pragmatic takeaway is the light but moisturizing effects of the tiniest dab. We like the understated packaging, too. Check out the full line of creams, cosmetics and fragrances at the first Byredo stand-alone shop in Texas on Level One of NorthPark Center (the flagship store is in Los Angeles).
