Comeback kid

Steely good looks
The origin of the bent-steel, magically cantilevered chair is debatable, but it is Ludwig Mies van der Rohe who is remembered for making the tubular steel designs irresistibly beautiful. The MR Collection from Knoll showcases the designer’s 1920s chaise loungers and chairs (with and without arms) with durable and well-padded leather upholstery. Digital gets real
A virtual showstopper when introduced to the design community as a CGI image in a showcase of “impossible” furniture, Hortensia has been brought to life by the innovative — and definitively quirky — Moooi design company. Originally a 3D rendering by designer Andrés Reisinger, the armchair emulates its namesake bloom with fabric converted into 20,000-plus petals in a process that requires 22.5 hours of sewing time per chair.
