The Rose Garden will be transformed by a carpet of marigolds on the steps. A special altar created by local artisans will be set up at the top of the rose ramp in the shelter house. Oct. 29

Butterfly Flutterby

It’s the 25th annual celebration of the monarch migration, which includes a live release of butterflies. There’s also a display of more than 300 preserved butterflies, a parade and costume contest, butterfly-themed art from local students, and arts and crafts. The event is dog-friendly, too. Oct. 15
Autumn at the Arboretum

There are pumpkin patches and then there is the Dallas Arboretum’s annual display of the seasonal gourd. This year’s theme is “A Fall Fairy Tale,” so look for the return of Cinderella’s carriage and displays reimagining classic stories such as The Three Little Pigs, along with the massive Pumpkin Village and more.
