2 Fort Worth restaurants up for prestigious James Beard awards
We’re not sure if Adrian Burciaga’s smile could grow even more than usual, but his grin definitely grew with the announcement of the 2023 James Beard Awards semifinalists.
Fort Worth’s Don Artemio is up for Best New Restaurant, one of 30 and the only Texas representative. Burciaga is co-owner of the restaurant, which turns one this month, and it’s a fitting anniversary gift for the man who has put his heart, soul and savings into Don Artemio.
While Tex-Mex rules in Fort Worth, Don Artemio is a fine-dining restaurant with an emphasis on heritage dishes using fresh ingredients, big cuts of dry-aged beef and a wine list heavy with vintages from Mexico.
The lunch specials are an exceptional deal; don’t miss the tacos de lengua or the sopecitos with dry-aged wagyu and marinated octopus.
Finalists are named March 29; winners are announced June 5.
Goldee’s Barbecue pitmasters/owners Jalen Heard, Lane Milne and Jonny White are up for Best Chef: Texas. Goldee’s is known for its long lines, its much-lauded barbecue, its homemade bread and quick sell-out of its monthly classes.
