Westfork Fitness takes shape on the Trinity River
Photos by Meda Kessler
Fort Worth restaurateur Lou Lambert takes his workouts seriously, and he now has a gym to call his own.
The stylish quonset-hut style stone building with an arched metal roof along the Trinity River is surrounded by old-growth trees. It was the former home of Abundio’s Fit Society (owner Abundio Munoz has set up a new gym at 5725 Camp Bowie Blvd.).
Lambert gave the interior a slight refresh. In the small lobby, there’s a check-in desk along with a glass-front refrigerator for beverages and grab-and-go meals from Roy Pope Grocery. All the equipment and weights are new, with one space designated as the “leg room.” The building is air-conditioned, but garage doors facing the river can be rolled up when the weather allows.
Amenities include private his-and-hers changing areas, showers and steam rooms. Outside, a new elevated back porch is perfect for yoga classes. There’s also a covered training area outfitted with climbing ropes, weights, medicine balls, kettlebells and more; it also takes advantage of the view.
Personal training and group classes are available from the roster of trainers; membership includes 24-7 access via a keypad. And while this might look like a “bro” gym, we watched as several women arrived in business attire, gym bags in hand. With easy access from the Trinity Trails, it’s convenient to hike and bike there for a workout.
