These are the 38 teen musicians who Cliburn named to the Third Junior Piano Competition
By Tori S. Couch
The Cliburn selected 38 young musicians to participate in the Third Cliburn International Junior Piano Competition and Festival.
The competition for 13- to -17-year olds will be June 8-17 in Dallas.
Of the 38 pianists selected, 14 are non-competing festival participants, and 24 will compete for the top prize. The musicians will learn from top international pianists through four rounds of competition. Each round, except for the final, will be at SMU’s Caruth Auditorium. The three finalists will perform full concertos with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, under the direction of Valentina Peleggi.
The participants were chosen from 248 applicants representing 44 countries. Applicants submitted a 15- to 20-minute performance video and went through a two-step review. The 14 festival participants came from the same applicant pool.
Tickets are on sale for each round of competition through the Cliburn website.
