Texas Christian University announced Thursday night “more than $1 billion has been committed” for its “Lead On: A Campaign for TCU,”  TCU’s most ambitious fundraising campaign in its history.

“The success of this campaign is fueling the university’s strategic plan and positioning TCU for the next 150 years of fulfilling its mission to educate leaders and responsible citizens for the global community,” the university said in a release.

TCU made the announcement during a celebration in the Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena, in front of  donors, volunteers, and alumni.

“For all of us at TCU, this is an incredible moment to reflect upon the impact of this effort for the future of our university,” Victor Boschini, the university’s chancellor, said in the release. “It is difficult to overstate the importance of this investment by so many who care so deeply about TCU’s students, faculty and staff.”

The “campaign commitments bolster TCU’s ability to accomplish the four high-level priorities of the university’s strategic plan,” TCU said.

Those are strengthening academic profile and reputation, TCU’s endowment, the campus experience and culture, and the workforce.

TCU said more than 57,000 TCU supporters participated in the campaign, co-chaired by Ronald C. Parker and Dee J. Kelly Jr., members of the Board of Trustees.

“This significant philanthropic support will impact generations of TCU students, and I am proud to carry on my family’s legacy with TCU,” Kelly said.

“The future of TCU has been made possible by every generous gift to this campaign,” Parker said. “As an alum, a former student-athlete, a Horned Frog parent and a trustee for more than 20 years, I have felt the impact of a TCU education and the support of the TCU community. It’s been an honor to celebrate the spirit of this community that always goes above and beyond expectations.”

Kit Moncrief, chair of TCU’s board, said “TCU’s success is a testament to our people, starting with our students, faculty and staff, to the donors who made our $1 billion goal a reality, and to my dedicated trustee colleagues. TCU has been a part of my life since I was a child and my mother served as a TCU trustee; it is an honor to continue our legacy of support into TCU’s future.”
