We could all use a little Hiatus

Founded in Dallas in 2007, Hiatus Spa + Retreat is scheduled to open in July in Fort Worth. This sixth location (all in Texas) is in Crockett Row at West 7th across the street from LA Fitness. The 5,000-square-foot day spa contains 14 treatment rooms, a nail-therapy lounge and men’s and women’s dressing rooms. Services include body rejuvenation, massage, skincare and mani/pedis. Hiatus is known for its monthly subscription program called H-Circle, in which a member’s $69 fee covers a signature 60-minute service each month and discounted pricing on other treatments and retail products. No matter your service, treatment always begins with a purifying foot soak along with a hand and foot massage. Premium services include the Perfectionist facial and the Kindred Spirits couples massage, among other options. Hiatus was founded by Kristin Heaton Peabody and Sheila Garrison. Peabody was diagnosed with a rare head-and-neck cancer a year after opening the Dallas spa. She battled the disease for nearly 10 years before dying in February. Hiatus honors her memory by supporting two of her favorite charities, Stand Up To Cancer and Charity: Water.

Peabody’s mother, artist Jan Heaton, is an acclaimed watercolor painter whose work graces the interiors of all six spa locations. Her ethereal works complement the calming spaces. Of the circular shapes Heaton often paints, she says they represent nature and friendship. Austin-based and award-winning interior designer Karen Kopicki of Kopicki Design is overseeing the Fort Worth location. All Hiatus spas aim to be as environmentally friendly as possible in both design and practice.
