If you ask Ragan Lynn Aguilera about tile selections or finishes for your home, she will graciously steer you to an interior designer. But ask her about accent chairs to complement a vintage leather Chesterfield, and she’ll offer multiple choices with custom color and fabric options.
“Accent chairs are a simple way for a homeowner to show their personality. While I think a big piece like a sofa should be timeless, switching out chairs is an easy way to change things up if you get tired of your look,” says Ragan. “It’s also where you can mix patterns, texture and materials. Think of velvet with leather, a bold print with a solid.”
Ragan and her husband, Oscar, co-founders of Sally Lynn Home in Southlake, are known for their inventive vignettes featuring not only furniture and case goods but also accessories, art, lighting and some vintage pieces. Oscar is a third-generation furniture store owner who also has experience in manufacturing. Sally Lynn Home is named after Ragan’s mother, who loved and collected vintage objects and antiques. Ragan says her personal style includes a mix of old and new. “It definitely makes for a more interesting look.”
The couple started small six years ago with a retail shop in a strip shopping center off Southlake Boulevard. It wasn’t very big and was set back from the main road, but they managed to attract customers. While the couple at first concentrated on retail, clients were soon taking their cues from the layouts they saw in the store. The Aguileras expanded to a bigger space next to Central Market in the Shops of Southlake and recently opened a massive design studio/warehouse in Southlake available by appointment only.
There, they have enough space to showcase everything from a bedroom setup complete with traditional high-back accent chairs to a more contemporary setting with low-slung leather chairs. You can use your imagination on what works well together, or just have a seat and let the Aguileras be your guide.
