Potter Natalie Cross — proprietor of Your House or Mine ceramics in Dallas — and her husband, Scott, built and designed two cabins, beginning with out-of-the-box blueprints she purchased online. The interiors of both properties feature a mix of vintage, reclaimed and artisan furnishings and high-end appliances. They still own and rent one, but Cabin California Dreaming is now offered on Airbnb by a new owner. “I bought Mason St. Peter’s book, Abode, as soon as it became available and used it a lot for inspiration,” says Natalie. The cabin’s contemporary design with a 30-foot wall of windows stretching across the back of the striking white A-frame takes advantage of the stunning pine forest view.

A Roche Bobois sectional is the star of the downstairs common area. She positioned it to face the view and paired it with an appropriately scaled wooden coffee table. The open kitchen features a large island finished with a hand-selected marble slab and natural wood. Stock the Fisher & Paykel refrigerator with cheese and wine; Natalie’s covetable pottery pieces are at the ready for serving up your culinary creations. A spiral staircase leads upstairs. Beds are dressed in crisp white linens; spalike bathrooms feature clay and cement tiles. Two king master suites offer large showers and vintage soaking tubs. A pair of 100-year-old pine doors lead to an outdoor hot tub overlooking the natural rock garden and woods beyond. The expansive deck offers unobstructed views of the night sky. It’s the perfect perch for enjoying the treat of an occasional wildlife sighting— and silence, lots of silence.
