Grapevine gets Mister 01 pizza location
Mister 01, the Miami artisanal pizza concept, is opening its second franchise location in Texas — May 2 at 129 S. Main St. in Grapevine.
The full-service restaurant will serve lunch and dinner seven days a week. Its artisanal pizzas have a delicate, thin crust made with very light dough, which Mister 01 says is “prepared and rests for a minimum of 72 hours before being served.” The dough and sauce — recipes were created by founder Renato Viola — contain no sugar or preservatives, Mister 01 says.
Viola grew up in southern Italy, where he developed a passion for cooking at a young age. By 11, he had apprenticed with some of Italy’s best chefs, Mister 01 says on its website. Viola moved to Miami under the O1 Visa category, for those with “extraordinary artistic ability” of internationally acclaimed fame, and opened the first location of Mister O1 in 2014. The chain has since grown to 13 locations in the U.S. In 2021, the concept was named “best pizza” in Florida in Food & Wine.
Local franchise partner John LaBarge, who is opening the Grapevine restaurant, launched the first Mister 01 in the area last fall, in the Turtle Creek Village shopping center in Dallas.
LaBarge is a former senior vice president of operations and franchise business at Corner Bakery Cafe.
“We’ve had such a positive response from Dallasites at our Turtle Creek location, and we are looking forward to providing a new area in DFW with a taste of our pizzas,” LaBarge said.
