Historic Fort Worth’s 2024 Hidden Gardens Tour is noon to 5 p.m. May 5, and a total of five gardens in the Westcliff, Tanglewood and Overton Park neighborhoods are on display.
Tickets are $40 — infants are free — and for sale at historicfortworth.org; Archie’s Gardenland, 6700 Z Boaz Place; and Calloway’s Nursery, 2651 S. Hulen St. Proceeds benefit Historic Fort Worth Inc.
The tour is celebrating its 20th year. Tourgoers receive addresses of the gardens after their ticket purchases. Here are Historic Fort Worth’s descriptions of this year’s gardens:
RUSTIC STONE
“The use of rustic stone in both the house and garden make a most harmonious picture. Flower beds of perennials are terraced down this sweeping lawn leading from house to pool area. The outdoor living area — complete with prep area, comfy seating and built-in grill — makes it effortless for the indoors to spill into the open air. The stone-surrounded pool with hot tub and fountain are a welcome respite from summer.”
COLONIAL REVIVAL
“A stately Colonial Revival house, one of the first on this street, presides over an enormous parklike yard. To the side, the owners have created an incredible recreation area for their kids or for large parties. Behind the house, a graciously landscaped yard with original pool house structures, a circular fountain and even a wishing well make this a place that one would never want to leave.”
VIEW, VIEW, VIEW
“For houses, the mantra may be ‘location, location, location,’ but for gardens, it’s ‘view, view, view!’ This lovely Mediterranean-influenced home takes advantage of its position on a crest and encourages outdoor living with several open-air living spaces that include all the amenities of indoor living. A relaxing pool is serenaded by fountains, and the incredible views are beautifully framed by greenery and trees.”
FRENCH CHATEAU
“A French chateau sets the tone for the lovely garden in the very private backyard. The serene infinity pool mirrors the views of the horizon with its linear lines. Next to the house, a complete outdoor living space means year-round enjoyment for these homeowners. Fountain grass, lantana, hibiscus, roses and more add layers of color to the landscape. And tucked in a corner is a dear memorial to their beloved canines.”
ATOP A CREST
“This gracious brick home also sits atop a crest. From the pool area behind the house, a large area covered with wildflowers and buffalo grass trails down a steep slope. Westerly views can be enjoyed from the relaxing swings and covered patios. Pass by a private spa off the master bedroom to the far side of the yard, where steps will take you down to a terraced picnic area with fire pit and a covered living area.”
