How you can create a new tradition with The Cliburn Family Concert Series

By Allyson Nichols

Inaugural season includes partnerships with the Fort Worth Zoo, Museum of Science and History, and The Stockyards

The Cliburn, a renowned 63-year-old global cultural organization, has long been a pillar in the Fort Worth arts community, known for its commitment to bringing classical music to diverse audiences. Over the years, it has introduced various innovative programs to engage the community, from casual club concerts to extensive educational outreach in schools.

This year, the Cliburn is launching a brand-new initiative: Cliburn Family Concerts. This series aims to open the world of classical music to younger audiences and create new family traditions in Fort Worth.

The idea for the Cliburn Family Concerts was sparked by the success of a Polar Express-themed community concert, which was so well-received that it became clear there was a demand for more family-oriented events.

“We wanted to create something that kids are going to walk into and remember forever, a special moment that they got to enjoy with their parents,” Director of Communications and Digital Content Maggie Estes said.

Cliburn Family Concerts is designed to be an annual series, offering a unique opportunity for families to come together and experience the wonder of classical music in some of Fort Worth’s most beloved venues. The series not only highlights the magic of the music but also strengthens the bonds within the community through strategic partnerships.

Bringing together the community

One of the most exciting aspects of Cliburn Family Concerts is the collaboration with three of Fort Worth’s most iconic institutions: the Fort Worth Zoo, the Stockyards, and the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History. These partnerships are not just about venue spaces; they represent a shared commitment to bringing together the community and families.

“What’s been so fun are the new partnerships that we get to create because of the family-centered approach to these concerts,” Estes said. “We get to work with some of our favorite organizations to do things we’ve been dreaming of and developing for years.”

The Polar Express at the Stockyards

Next in the series is a magical rendition of The Polar Express, held in the Stampede Room at the Stockyards Station. This immersive experience will feature a live narrator reading the beloved story, accompanied by classical music interludes that correspond with the book’s illustrations. Families are encouraged to make a day of it, exploring the Stockyards during one of its busiest weekends, complete with Cowboy Santa and an ice rink. This partnership highlights the Cliburn’s ability to blend tradition with innovation, offering a fresh take on a classic holiday story.

This space-themed concert will feature classical music inspired by the wonders of space, with stunning NASA imagery projected on the theater’s state-of-the-art LED screen. This event not only introduces children to the beauty of classical music but also sparks their imagination about the cosmos.
