“Cowboy” comes to Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth
The Museum of Contemporary Art Denver assembled more than 60 cutting-edge contemporary artworks, including new commissions from 27 artists, for an exhibit exploring the popular mythologies surrounding the image and concept of the cowboy. Asian American, Latino and Indigenous artists bring their unique cultural perspectives regarding the cowboy’s role in shaping perceptions of masculinity and gender and long-held assumptions about the cowboys’ relationship to land, which often contradict their contemporary, lived experience.
