A Winter Warmer

Lockwood Distilling Co.’s original home is in Richardson, where the distillery turns out whiskey, gin, vodka and rum, but they now also call Fort Worth home.

At the new bar/restaurant on Magnolia Avenue, enjoy cocktails, wine and food; take-home bottles also are for sale.

The Lockwood kitchen turns out hot dogs, sandwiches and shareables such as dips and grazing boards.

The menu includes shareables such as a grazing board and dips, along with hot dogs featuring 44 Farms beef and sandwiches. Sit at the bar, at one of many tables in the tasting room or on the covered dog-friendly patio. A new release is the Bourbon Cream Liqueur, a perfect winter warmer, especially mixed in with coffee or mugs of hot chocolate; it works in myriad cocktail applications, too. We created a cross between a brandy Alexander, said to be created pre-Prohibition in New York City, and the brandy milk punch, a New Orleans libation almost religiously enjoyed during the requisite jazz brunch. The combination of creamy bourbon with the spicy rum that hints of coffee and crème de cacao’s balance of cocoa and vanilla is an indulgent treat to sip slowly and enjoy.

Magnolia Milk Punch

Serves 2

  • 2 ounces Lockwood Bourbon Cream Liqueur
  • 2 ounces dark rum such as Myers’s
  • 2 ounces dark crème de cacao
  • Grated nutmeg

In an ice-filled cocktail shaker, combine bourbon cream, dark rum and crème de cacao; shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Strain into 2 coupe glasses and garnish with grated nutmeg. Serve immediately.
