Restored ’73 Ford Bronco Goes to Schwab Challenge Winner

By Scott Nishimura

The winner of this year’s 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club will drive away with a restored 1973 Ford Bronco, continuing an annual series of prize cars that the investment firm began in 2019 with its title sponsorship of the golf tournament, Schwab said Tuesday.

Bryan Rood of Classic Ford Broncos in Ohio restored the Bronco, and “modernized and packed (it) with cutting-edge technology symbolizing the firm’s commitment to innovation and service to its clients,” Schwab said in a release.

The SUV has a 2023 Gen 3 Coyote 5.0L engine with 465 horsepower, Ford 10-speed automatic transmission paired to Ford’s push-button four-wheel drive system, custom machined door handles, mirrors, knobs, and hand-stitched interior upholstery with Colonial Tartan Plaid trim, Schwab said.

“We are honored, once again, to play a role in the tradition of this celebrated tournament in Fort Worth and be part of its longstanding support from the Metroplex community,” said Jonathan Craig, managing director and head of investor services at Schwab.

The Schwab Challenge, the PGA Tour’s Fort Worth stop, is set for May 25-28 at Colonial.

Schwab began its car giveaway to the Schwab champion in 2019, with the restored and customized 1973 Dodge Challenger. It followed that up with the1946 Schwab Power Wagon in 2021, and, most recently, the 1979 Pontiac Firebird last year.
