These summer performances are definite must-sees.

DISNEY’S FROZEN

The popular Disney movie Frozen comes to life as a Broadway musical under award-winning director Michael Grandage. The musical features favorites from the Oscar winning film, such as “Let It Go,” plus additional songs from the same award-winning writing team. The New Yorker calls the show “thrilling” and “genuinely moving.” Expect incredible special effects, sets and costumes, too.

AN EVENING WITH LYLE LOVETT AND HIS LARGE BAND

Texan Lyle Lovett, long a big draw at Bass Hall, returns with his brand of music fusion, incorporating country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and blues in a way that breaks down barriers. Lovett has received four Grammy Awards and was given the Americana Music Association’s inaugural Trailblazer Award.

MY FAVORITE FILMS & MODERN KIDS — SUMMER FLICKS

The Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is hosting two summer film series. “My Favorite Films” includes movies about romance, humor, suspense, satire and heroism that date as far back as 1945. The screenings start at 2 p.m. on select Wednesdays through August and September. Films showing in August are “Roman Holiday,” “Monsieur Hulot’s Holiday,” and “To Catch a Thief.” “Modern Kids — Summer Flicks: Selected Short Films” is a two-day series highlighting entries in the New York International Children’s Film Festival. Live-action, animated and documentary films will take center stage. Films start at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. both days. Visit the Modern’s website for more information on both series.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, CHARLIE BROWN! & AN UNEXPECTED FRIENDSHIP: JIMMY STEWART’S LOVE FOR FORT WORTH

The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History has two special exhibits this summer. Step inside “Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown!” to cool off and explore the making of this animated classic. The traveling exhibit from the Charles M. Schulz Museum also celebrates the joys and pitfalls of the holiday season. “An Unexpected Friendship: Jimmy Stewart’s Love for Fort Worth” displays photos, scripts and other artifacts from Stewart’s visits to the city, which led him to become one its biggest fans. The 1966 world premiere of his film “The Rare Breed” took place at the original Palace Theatre downtown during the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.

THE COLOR PURPLE

“The Color Purple” is a musical adaptation of Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prizewinning novel and the 1985 film by Steven Spielberg. It follows a young
woman, Celie, who has a personal awakening over the course of 40 years.
She finds the strength to triumph over adversity and discover her voice in
the world. It features jazz, ragtime, gospel and African music. The story is a
celebration of life, hope and the healing power of love. The musical opened on Broadway in 2005 and was nominated for 11 Tony Awards in 2006.

THE OTHER JOSH COHEN

Josh Cohen is broke, single and his apartment has been robbed of
everything except a Neil Diamond CD. His luck takes a turn when a
mysterious envelope arrives. This funny, quirky romantic comedy centers
around a good guy dogged by bad luck.
