Fort Worth’s vibrant art scene takes center stage with these upcoming exhibits

Whether you’re a fan of traditional painting, avant-garde sculptures, or immersive multimedia experiences, Fort Worth’s upcoming art exhibits offer something for every art lover to explore and enjoy.

AN UNEXPECTED FRIENDSHIP: JIMMY STEWART’S LOVE FOR FORT WORTH

The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is highlighting an honorary Texan in this exhibit, which displays photos, scripts and other artifacts from Stewart’s time in Fort Worth. The Academy Award-winning actor became an advocate for the city and its zoo, and the 1966 world premiere of his film “The Rare Breed” took place at the original Palace Theater downtown during the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo.

The exhibition pieces range from early to recent works and include the 2019 painting “Box Fan Heroes,” which gained national attention.

ROBERT MOTHERWELL: PURE PAINTING

This exhibit will be the first presentation in more than 25 years to fully examine the artist’s mastery. Motherwell emerged on the New York art scene during the 1940s, doing abstract figurative works. Guest curator Susan Davidson has chosen pieces that will highlight the key series that defined Motherwell’s work and offer new insights into his evolution as an artist. The Modern has exhibited Motherwell’s work before, including in 1991, the final retrospective done during his lifetime.
