Pick-your-own fruit and vegetable farms are increasingly popular among families seeking a blend of enjoyment and education during their family outings. Instead of opting for the usual supermarket experience, visit these DFW area farms directly for a wide range of fresh produce and to support local farmers. Remember that hours, prices and produce vary by location and season. 

Blase Family Farm

The Blase Family Farm utilizes organic methods in their farming practices. The farm provides shaded picnic areas for a delightful day of outdoor harvesting and enjoying snacks and provides mini buckets for little ones to join in the fun. There’s a stunning pathway leading to the blueberry fields, so remember to bring a camera for capturing the beauty! Picking season typically spans six weeks, starting from late May to early July, and then again from September to October for pumpkins, depending on spring weather conditions.

The Greer Farm

At Greer Farm, the picking is ripe for blueberries, blackberries, figs and plums! Not only can you spend a few hours picking fruits, priced per pound, but the farm also offers meats, jams and sauces, honey and eggs for order. The kids will especially love this farm as they can participate in some of the farm chores, like bottle-feeding any new lambs or gathering chicken eggs.

Pecan Creek Strawberry Farm

Named after the local creek, this strawberry farm has been family run for over 100 years. Pecan Creek typically opens in March through May, season depending, and will be open Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The peak harvest will be around the second week of May.

Pure Land Farm

Typically open mid-May through the end of July, you can get most of your fruit and veggie shopping done in one spot! Located just 10 minutes from Historic Downtown McKinney, visitors can find favorites like blackberries, green beans, zucchini, squash, cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes and more.

WOW U-Pick Farms

Located just northwest of Denton, WOW U-Pick Farms offers an abundance of fresh produce that is free from sprays or pesticides, ensuring delicious and organic foods. The farm utilizes hydroponics, a method that nourishes plants with a water-based and nutrient-rich solution. From late May to June, visitors can harvest items like tomatoes, red bell peppers, garlic, potatoes, okra, yellow and green squash, and more.
