Culinary Dropout

If a day trip to Austin isn’t on your calendar but you want to make your online followers think you’re lounging in the Hill Country, a photo of newcomer Culinary Dropout’s second-story patio will do the trick. Despite the unrelenting summer heat, a slice of Dropout’s Detroit-style pizzas and a round of paloma spritzes on that patio (overlooking unexpected treetop views) continue to nudge us back. 150 Turtle Creek Blvd., Dallas, culinarydropout.com

Partenope Ristorante

Downtown Dallas Italian specialist Partenope Ristorante has again been recognized as one of the top pizzerias in the United States, ranking 16th on the prestigious 50 Top Pizza list. The list’s organizers say rankings are based on anonymous review visits and reflect a restaurant’s commitment to authentic Neapolitan cuisine and tradition. Partenope is owned by Naples, Italy, native Dino Santonicola and his wife, Megan. There’s no wrong order here, but the lasagna (available Friday and Saturday nights only) should be given extra consideration. Want to learn the secrets to making Partenope’s celebrated la Vera Pizza Napoletana — true Neapolitan pizza? The restaurant teaches a pizza-making class on Saturday afternoons. 1903 Main St., Dallas, partenopedallas.com

Dee’s Table Burgers & More

If you’re looking for the next big thing from the co-founder of Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse and Dee Lincoln Prime, get yourself to Dee’s Table at The Star in Frisco before everyone else discovers this place. While Lincoln is well-known for steakhouses that feature ultra-prime Allen Brothers steaks and impeccable sushi, it’s her native New Orleans hospitality and Cajun culinary flair that shine brightest here. We like the restaurant’s casual vibe and sugar-free “Double Zero” cocktails a little more than we probably should, but Dee’s “Double J Sandwich” — a sliced tenderloin number dressed with tomato, red onion, arugula and remoulade that’s named for Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones — is our new, secret $25 obsession.
