Mar y Sol Cocina Latina Brings Latin Flavor and Tulum Vibes to McKinney Avenue
Photos by Michael Hiller
Mar y Sol Cocina Latina has quickly become the hotspot on McKinney Avenue. This Latin American restaurant, part of the Lombardi Family Concepts portfolio, has been buzzing since it opened a few weeks ago. Danilo di Nardo, one of the city’s most gregarious restaurateurs, runs the show here, which means every service detail has been meticulously curated. The restaurant’s name, meaning “sea and sun,” captures its essence, drawing inspiration from the coastal beauty of Tulum. Light pendants, clay pottery and linen accents recall a beachside resort. The menu is a culinary vacation, too, rambling through Latin America with nods to Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Colombia. Don’t miss the yellowtail ceviche tumbled with leche de tigre and pickled habanero chiles, or the Cuban-style lechon (roasted pork), which arrives crisp-skinned and fragrant from a slick of chorizo demi glace.
