All is Calm

While that long winter’s nap sounds pretty good, we also love taking refuge in our bathroom. We like a well-styled vanity: minimal products and clutter (use that medicine cabinet), stylish mix of containers, live plants. For a spalike getaway, light a candle, turn on your favorite music and fill the tub with bubble bath. Make sure you lock the door to create the perfect retreat from the phone, the family and everyday life. Here are some of our favorite bath niceties. — Meda Kessler

Candles add ambiance and subtle scent (don’t pick one that’s too overwhelming for a small bathroom). We like the light floral smell and sculpted container of Joya’s Blush candle, $28, available exclusively at Megan Thorne Fine Jewels. Or go for a classic, the Duchess Peony Powder Room by Lafco, $65, Lawrence’s and Neiman Marcus.

Hand soap dispensers are in heavy use these days. We like this sophisticated but sturdy concrete and stainless steel design. It holds 5 ounces of your favorite soap. $11.99, The Container Store.

Adding greenery — pick a plant that likes humidity — and fresh florals make every bathroom special. It’s the one room where we often use fragrant flowers, such as stock or lilies.

Baskets help keep everything tidy in the bathroom. These durable rattan bins are perfect for stashing hand towels or extra rolls of toilet paper. $19.99 and up,
The Container Store.

Basic Epsom salts (available at the grocery store) work wonders, but we like to treat ourselves with Dallas-based Niven Morgan’s bath soak crystals, which combines Dead Sea salts with vitamin E, green tea and sunflower oil (the lavender mint scent is our favorite). From $28 for 22 ounces, Lawrence’s. Or check nivenmorgan.com to place an order or find the closest stockist. Also, visit Lush Cosmetics for its big selection of bath bombs. Just beware that some products can create a slippery tub.
