North Texas Community Foundation Celebrates 45 Years of Impact

Marking its 45th anniversary, NTCF reflects on the decades of generosity that has propelled community growth and laid the foundation for a brighter future.

2026 is a milestone year for North Texas Community Foundation (NTCF). For 45 years, the Foundation has served a region experiencing tremendous growth and evolving community needs. As the Foundation kicks off its 45th anniversary, it’s a great time to look back at decades of philanthropic impact and share their vision for what comes next.

Since its founding in 1981, NTCF has served as a trusted partner for donors, nonprofits and community leaders across an 11-county region. Over the decades, the Foundation has grown from a primarily transactional donor resource into a strategic philanthropic leader. Together with their fundholders and community leaders, they help unite those who care about our community to drive meaningful change.

45 Years of Bringing the Community Together

At the core of the Foundation’s success is its role as a convener. NTCF brings together donors, nonprofits, as well as civic and community leaders to collaborate as a team on solutions to demanding challenges.

“Generous donors are at the core of everything we do. They love North Texas and they want to make sure it’s strong for the long haul. For the toughest issues, that requires collaboration,” President & CEO Rose Bradshaw shared. “When you’re solving big problems, nobody succeeds alone.”

A recent example is NTCF’s leadership in addressing maternal health outcomes in Tarrant County. Tarrant County is home to the second highest maternal mortality rate for black women in Texas. At Mayor Parker’s request, the Foundation convened hospital partners, nonprofit organizations and city leaders to form a coalition focused on improving outcomes for local mothers and infants. The effort has already inspired major momentum. Under the auspices of TCU Medical School, five DFW-based medical institutions recently launched a $25 million maternal health accelerator to support long-term solutions.

Community-wide convenings such as this are now central to NTCF’s identity, as well as a key reason donors trust the Foundation as both a steward of their gifts and a guide to addressing North Texas’ challenges.

A Region Growing Faster Than Ever

As the population grows, so does the community’s generosity. 2025 was another record-breaking year of grantmaking, continuing a trend of year-over-year increases.

Community needs, however, have also evolved significantly since the Foundation’s early years. What began as traditional charitable giving has expanded into a more impact-driven approach. Donors now look to NTCF as an expert resource, one that focuses on evolving challenges and guides impactful nonprofit partners leading the charge.

Three priority areas are currently guiding much of the Foundation’s work, including:

  • Land Conservation: Protecting the natural resources that support North Texas’ long-term growth.
  • Community Development: Strengthening neighborhoods and improving quality of life through housing, economic mobility and infrastructure.
  • Nonprofit Capacity Building: Making sure local organizations have the tools, training, and resources to operate sustainably.

Each of these areas is supported through the Foundation’s grant cycles, shaped by ongoing listening sessions, surveys, and direct conversations with grantees. This approach confirms funding remains relevant and that community voices drive the strategy.

A New Strategic Plan

Although details are still under wraps, NTCF will unveil its new five-year strategic plan in March. The theme, The Foundation for the Future, reflects the organization’s commitment to preparing not only for the next five years, but the next 45.

NTCF’s future will focus on:

  • Delivering a best-in-class donor experience across generations
  • Expanding the Foundation’s geographic reach to better serve donors in its footprint, not just the Fort Worth area
  • Deepening philanthropic engagement to build stronger relationships between donors, nonprofits, and leaders
  • Staying flexible and prepared for the changing needs of North Texas

With its 50th anniversary coming into view, the organization is laying the groundwork for transformational progress.

“Our experiences to date have set the stage beautifully for where we’re going,” says Bradshaw. “As the Foundation for the Future, we’re preparing to serve the donors, nonprofits and communities of tomorrow.”

A Commitment That Spans Generations

NTCF’s forward-looking approach is shaped by their donor base, including:

  • Traditional donors who provide steadfast support for the charities and causes they love the most
  • The next generation of donors who expect data-driven impact and experiential engagement
  • Legacy Society members whose estate gifts will create lasting community benefit long after their lifetimes

These groups reflect the evolving nature of philanthropy and the Foundation’s commitment to serving each one with care and purpose.
