While some of us struggled with a messy, sticky autumn, thanks to the bagworm infestation of our trees followed immediately by an aphid attack, the Japanese Garden remained a verdant oasis. The picture-perfect enclave inside the Fort Worth Botanic Garden offers an escape from the reality of shrubs that need trimming and grass that needs mowing. Yes, we know there’s a trained staff tending to the needs of the flora there, but they are seldom seen, which makes the landscape’s perfection look so effortless. A visit is rewarding any time, but the Japanese Festival makes the garden a perfect getaway for an awe-inspiring walk. The popular family-friendly event attracts a crowd, but it’s still possible to find quiet spots to gaze out over the pond and the maples ablaze on the shoreline and feel transported to a land far away. The festival is Nov. 5-6; find more details on the website. fwbg.org/japanesefestival
