New Dallas-area restaurants that are worth checking out
By Michael Hiller
What’s new for March: a little bit of Vegas, Brooklyn-style pizza and an airport bar with hockey cred.
La Neta Cocina y Lounge
The Dallas branch of La Neta Cocina y Lounge, from notable Las Vegas nightlife expert and restaurateur Ryan Labbe, is open in The Epic building on the eastern edge of downtown. La Neta leans more modern Mexican than Tex-Mex, offering dishes such as short-rib barbacoa with manchego polenta, butter-poached Maine lobster tacos and enchiladas, and chipotle-spiced albondigas. Late nights transition to a more Vegas vibe, with DJs, mezcal and tequilas getting top billing.
Poco Fiasco
The folks at Harwood Hospitality Group have combined two of Uptown’s latest passions — thin-crust, tavern-style pizzas and fancy martinis — into a lively restaurant. Chefs JP Mancha and Taylor Kearney say classic Brooklyn pizzerias inspired their menu, which also includes salads and hot sandwiches, but it’s the thoughtful selection of by-the-glass wines and $9 martinis that draws the buzz. An adjacent garage offers free parking.
Turco 35
Former Dallas Stars goaltender Marty Turco has partnered with Dallas Love Field to open a namesake bar inside the passenger terminal. Located near Gate 12, Turco 35 offers cocktails, wines and beers, including some from Turco’s own brand, Kingsville Brewery in Ontario, Canada.
