THE END ZONE

Carroll Spirit

With a 40-foot-plus wingspan, pointy horns and an impenetrable 8-ton stainless steel body, this dragon isn’t as cuddly as the Southlake Carroll mascot. (With a name like Fury, you’d expect something menacing.) Fortunately, the 28-foot-tall sculpture is mounted on a steel and concrete base where it can only gaze out at the District 114 at Kimball Park mixed-use development in Southlake (near the Cambria Hotel). The brainchild of Jeff Medici, the development’s managing partner and Southlake Carroll supporter, and the artistic team of Dallas-based Brad Oldham and Christy Coltrin, Fury celebrates the Dragon spirit and is a wow-inducing piece of public art no matter whom you root for. Find Fury on the northwest corner of State Highway 114 and Kimball Avenue (you can catch a glimpse of the statue); check out the website for directions, district114atkimballpark.com.
