LaShonda Cooks uses layered strokes of paint in vibrant colors to explore cultural norms, identity and beauty through portraiture. Her signature style blends pointillism with impressionist techniques, transforming everyday materials into evocative visual narratives.
She’s currently a 2025 Carter Community Artist at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art in Fort Worth, collaborating on yearlong programming that brings art to diverse audiences. Cooks’ work has been exhibited at Moody Performance Hall in Fort Worth and the African American Museum of Dallas, as well as internationally at Boston City Hall, Illamar Galeria in Peru, and the Chateau D’Orquevaux residency in France.
Cooksʻ work features large-scale portraits that invite viewers to reflect on heritage and communal memory. Beyond her studio, Cooks leads community workshops promoting arts access for all ages, making creativity part of daily life in North Texas.
