Chad Houser, the chef and founder of Café Momentum, has earned a James Beard Award, a nod to both his culinary talent and his dedication to social change. The James Beard Foundation’s Humanitarian of the Year Award recognizes individuals who have positively impacted their community, and Houser’s work with Café Momentum is a powerful example of how food can be a catalyst for change.
Since opening in 2015, Café Momentum has provided young people coming out of juvenile detention centers with a second chance. The Dallas restaurant, which is open to the public, doubles as a training ground where these individuals gain hands-on experience in the kitchen, receive mentorship and learn life skills that can help them break the cycle of incarceration. Through this program, Houser is not just serving exceptional food but creating opportunities for young people to transform their lives.
Dining downtown at Café Momentum is a direct way to support this important mission. Every dish served contributes to the restaurant’s broader goal of empowering these young adults. Diners at the restaurant help fund the Houser’s work and Café’s mission, ensuring that more lives can be changed. The restaurant is open for dinner Thursday through Saturday night.
