John Zimmerman’s love for real estate goes back to college — he majored in Finance with an emphasis on Real Estate at the University of Arkansas — but he began his career in 1992 after a chance meeting with Tim Fleet of Lackland Holdings at his brother-in-law’s wedding. “I still talk to him a couple times a day,” John says. “He taught me the ropes.”
After a few years of working for Tim, John launched his own development company. He began in Parker Country selling 1,000 acres of 1+ acre homes and then developed with his partners Fort Worth’s luxury neighborhoods Montrachet, La Cantera and Montserrat.
In late 2011, John noticed the recession meant people weren’t building homes but they were still selling and buying existing ones. At the encouragement of friends, John added real estate brokerage as an additional service offered despite his own trepidation. “I realized it was my calling, I really like people.” John says. “I enjoy figuring out how to find creative, super beneficial solutions for them that make their life better.”
While John was successful and enjoyed his first year, his second year and every year following, he was the number one agent in Fort Worth and in 2018 became the founding agent for Compass Real Estate Fort Worth. “It is completely different from any other brokerage,” John says. “It’s been a rocketship. It’s allowed me an opportunity to do things for my clients that no agent really can do.”

His proudest recent achievement is being named as a Finalist for Fort Worth Inc.’s Entrepreneur of Excellence award. “My work is unbelievably fulfilling. Every day brings excitements and new challenges.”
