A new destination for South Indian vegetarian cuisine has been making waves in Las Colinas.
Simply South, which opened its doors in December, has already earned a coveted spot on The New York Times’ list of America’s Best Restaurants for 2024. Led by chefs Venkateswara Rao Muttavarapu, Manikandan Ramalingam and Anoop Muraleedharan, the restaurant brings an upscale approach to the regional vegetarian cuisine of Andhra Pradesh in southern India.
Dosas are at the heart of the menu. The golden, fermented rice crepes are served with six distinctive chutneys and a robust sambar, whose assertive spices are not for the faint of heart.
The thatte idly, a tender, saucer-shaped rice cake, and the spicy Nellore Ghee Kaaram dosa shine among the offerings. For those seeking a playful twist, the sweet Nutella dosa offers a fusion of tradition and indulgence.
Though vegetarian fare is the focus here, carnivores will not leave disappointed. The vegkheema masala, a plant-based reimagining of minced meat, has won praise for its satisfying texture and flavor, while the jackfruit fry biryani delivers a clever meatless take on the beloved rice dish.
Simply South’s popularity has created quite a buzz, with Sunday wait times stretching to three hours.
