During the first half of the 20th century, Germany experienced a lot of changes including the last years of the German Empire, World War I, the liberal Weimar Republic and the rise of National Socialism and Adolf Hitler, the Holocaust and World War II. The discourse was shaped by modern art while politics influenced the arts. “Modern Art and Politics in Germany” traces the German experience during those years through more than 70 paintings and sculptures. The art comes from the collections of the Neue Nationalgalerie, the distinguished modern art museum of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.
