American Mahjong gets its first worldwide ranking platform

A familiar tabletop game is entering a new era, rooted in Fort Worth and shaped by two local entrepreneurs working to expand how American Mahjong is played and experienced.

Amanda Wolsey and Bethany Factor, co-founders of American Mahjong Ranking (AMR) Authority, have introduced the first official worldwide ranking system for the game, pairing a mobile app with a standardized framework designed to track performance and connect players.

The idea grew out of Fort Worth’s own Mahjong community. Through teaching, events and the founding of The Mahj Clubhouse, Wolsey and Factor have helped build a local network of players — one that continues to expand as interest in the game grows.

As that momentum builds, the AMR platform offers a new level of structure. Players enter scores from real games, which are verified by others at the table and fed into an Elo-style ranking system similar to those used in sports, creating real-time rankings and a shared standard for play.

The result is a platform that reflects both sides of the game: community and competition!
