The business that pays is a healthcare factoring company which works specifically with orthopedic medical practices. I have been doing this since 2008. I also sit on the board of two nonprofits: Raquel’s Wings for Life in Decatur, Texas, and A Wish with Wings in Fort Worth. I’m also on the board for Entrepreneurs’ Organization in Fort Worth.
PRESSING QUESTIONS
How I knew this was my passion
I like “building” things. Building a business, helping to build nonprofits, and helping (myself included) build entrepreneurs’ businesses and processes.
Biggest challenges in my career
Complacency.
My first job and what it taught me
My dad inspected my work mowing lawns. He would see the blade of grass I missed or the imperfect edging. I wasn’t finished until it was done, and learned attention to detail.
A nonprofit I wish more people knew about
Raquel’s Wings for Life and A Wish With Wings.
What keeps me coming back to my job every day
The lifestyle it provides our family.
Best career moment so far
Starting my own company and being my own boss. The boss hasn’t fired or laid me off yet.
A skill I never expected to need in this field
Not sure I can answer that.
One practice I use to maintain my mental health
Wine.
Best advice I ever received
Give others the opportunity to get what they want and you’ll get what you want.
The one thing I wish people knew about my field
Everything is a financial transaction.
The first thing I do to course-correct when I hit a wall
Try something different.
