Don Artemio enjoying national restaurant spotlight as finalist for James Beard Foundation award

It’s certainly getting harder to find a table at Don Artemio Mexican Heritage, the new Westside fine dining restaurant featuring Northeast Mexican dishes.

The restaurant, headed by Adrian Burciaga, is a finalist for Best New Restaurant in the James Beard Foundation’s 2023 Restaurant and Chef Awards. The results will be announced at a ceremony June 5 at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Other finalists are Causa in Washington, D.C.; Dept of Culture, New York; Kann, Portland, Oregon; Lupi & Iris, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Neng Jr.’s, Asheville, North Carolina; Nolia, Cincinnati; Obélix, Chicago; Restaurant Beatrice, Dallas; and Tatemó, Houston.

To be considered, a restaurant must have opened between Jan. 1 and Sept. 30, 2022, and “already demonstrates excellence in cuisine, atmosphere, hospitality, and operations, while contributing positively to its broader community, and seems likely to make a significant impact in years to come.”

Establishments that opened after Sept. 30 can be considered for the 2024 awards.
