Finger Food and Eyeballs, Too

While grazing boards packed with veggies, crackers, cheeses and meats are ubiquitous at gatherings, these Halloween candy spreads are a hit with young and old.

Claudia Sheddy of Fort Worth-based My Sweet Roots catering builds hers around carefully selected pieces, and she has two young boys who chime in about whether “eyeballs” make a good addition. Sheddy sleuths online sources for unique candy while adding perennial favorites such as foil-wrapped chocolates, chocolate-covered mini pretzels and sweet-and-sour gummy “spiders” and “fingers.” She rolls up fruit strips and places little bowls on the board to hold smaller pieces such as candy corn. For special presentations, she adds a dish of dry ice for a spooky effect.
