PRESSING QUESTIONS
How I knew this was my passion
Over the decades, I have never been content with the status quo for myself or my peers. I have always sought ways to achieve more both personally and professionally.
Biggest challenges in my career
Learning that words and heart don’t always align, and that sometimes it’s easier to let go and move on than remain with hope of a change that will never manifest.
My first job and what it taught me
My first job was clerking for my father’s law firm. I learned at an early age that there are no problems, only details, and that anything can be figured out.
A nonprofit I wish more people knew about
There are literally thousands in our community, but I wish more people would take the time to learn about ones like The Welman Project which serves teachers, creatives, and more.
What keeps me coming back to my job every day
The fundamental belief that sometimes the most important thing we can do for others is to just show up. If I can support someone on their journey I will.
Best career moment so far
There have been multiple times over the decades where I have been challenged to a task believed to be beyond my abilities; so far no one has been right yet.
A skill I never expected to need in this field
Patience with myself. I struggle in all things with the transition of change. Once I know a direction, I want to be there now. The impossible one sit-up six pack.
One practice I use to maintain my mental health
I struggle in practice but for me the best mental health comes through music. Depending on my need I will write, play, or just meditatively listen to classic Miles Davis.
Best advice I ever received
There is power in the name Robertson. If you aren’t willing to put your name to something, you have no business doing it. Be true to who you represent.
The one thing I wish people knew about my field
My industry is supporting others; there is no assurance of continuity I live and die by the belief that others will speak my name positively in rooms I’m not in.
The first thing I do to course-correct when I hit a wall
It is vitally important to listen above all things. You must listen to yourself, to peers, to clients, and to others to truly gain the information you need to adjust.
