ALLY HUNDLEY
Consumer Loan Officer and Assistant Vice President
Amarillo National Bank
I started as a teller with Amarillo National Bank right after finishing at West Texas A&M University 11 years ago and worked my way up to a Consumer Loan Officer. I help borrowers build credit, finance dream vehicles and find solutions to stressful financial problems. Working for a family-owned bank allows me to put the customer first and build relationships along the way.
PRESSING QUESTIONS
How I knew this was my passion
The first time I was able to help a customer build their credit and they came back to me a year later to let me know they were able to buy their first home. I knew my job was much more than financing vehicles. I could help people reach their financial goals.
Biggest challenges in my career
Moving from my hometown of Canyon, Texas, to the metroplex! Learning a new market has been both very rewarding and challenging for a small-town girl!
My first job and what it taught me
I was a hostess at a small restaurant at 16. That job required a lot of multi-tasking — I was a teen and needless to say that wasn’t a skill I had yet. It’s come in handy!
A nonprofit I wish more people knew about
DFW Angels. Their mentorship and love box programs are changing the way people experience foster care.
What keeps me coming back to my job every day
Not to be cliche, but the people. I love working somewhere that allows me to be involved in the community and also put people first.
Best career moment so far
Being named Citizen of the Year in Canyon. Truly being able to prioritize community over profit has helped me build not only a successful career but also give back to the places that give so much to me and my family.
A skill I never expected to need in this field
Empathy. I love all things numbers and spreadsheets so lending just made sense to me. But being able to sit with people when they are experiencing their lowest of lows and the highest of highs has been a skill I tend to use more often than I ever thought.
One practice I use to maintain my mental health
I try to never take myself or my job too seriously. I am known to be pranking people in the office more often than not.
Best advice I ever received
No one has ever died and wished they had worked more. I am so thankful to work for a “Family First” company that allows me to be a very present parent.
The one thing I wish people knew about my field
Bankers have fun too! Finance tends to get lumped in with the “boring” jobs!
The first thing I do to course-correct when I hit a wall
I love a list! When the tasks at hand seems impossible to start I try and complete 3 other things on the list. This gives you that hit of instant gratification!
