When I retired in 2024 after 25 years working for the City of Fort Worth, I accepted a position at BNSF Railways as a Public Affairs Manager. I am currently responsible for all administrative and operational functions for the Public Affairs Unit and serve as the RailPAC Assistant Treasurer.

This is a new role for me, but it combines my talents for math, budgeting and people.

My first job was at the City of Fort Worth in the Human Resources Department. I learned hard work and dedication.

A nonprofit I wish more people knew about

Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas.

What keeps me coming back to my job every day

While the work can be challenging, learning something new almost every day.

Best career moment so far

Being voted in as State Chair of the Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas (nonprofit) and retiring from the City of Fort Worth and switching careers.

A skill I never expected to need in this field

This is a unique field that requires so many different software programs.

One practice I use to maintain my mental health

Take time for myself. Maybe it’s a weekend, maybe it’s day, maybe it’s an hour, etc. And asking for help.

Best advice I ever received

If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair. Or bring your own table and chairs.

The one thing I wish people knew about my field

It isn’t a male dominated field, which is something I hear a lot. It can be taught and anyone can learn it.

The first thing I do to course-correct when I hit a wall

Walk away and regroup. Come back fresh to tackle the task.
