PRESSING QUESTIONS
How I knew this was my passion
People feel lost in the legal process while navigating grief or fear. I knew this was my path the first time I said, “I’ve got this. Follow me.”
Biggest challenges in my career
Any time there is a loss of life, I carry the burden of pursuing accountability so the family has the space and capacity to grieve.
My first job and what it taught me
It showed me how quickly the scales of justice can tip the wrong way — and that it’s our responsibility to push them back toward fairness.
A nonprofit I wish more people knew about
Lena Pope, for supporting children through counseling, education and behavior intervention programs that help build stronger futures.
What keeps me coming back to my job every day
Expanding our reach. When you excel at something, you have a responsibility to mentor others and ensure the service continues beyond you.
Best career moment so far
Helping change Texas law through Athena’s Law — creating lasting impact by turning unimaginable loss into protection for others.
A skill I never expected to need in this field
Listening without rushing to fix — holding space for grief and leading with empathy as much as strategy.
One practice I use to maintain my mental health
Traveling with my children. It’s not always restful, but stepping away helps me reset, gain perspective and be fully present with them.
Best advice I ever received
You don’t have to choose. Your ambition and your family can coexist, and each can strengthen the other.
The one thing I wish people knew about my field
Lawyers aren’t fungible. The person you choose shapes the strategy, the outcome and your experience — this work is as much about trust as law.
The first thing I do to course-correct when I hit a wall
A shot of espresso and honest reflection — letting go of ego and adjusting what isn’t working.
